Deb Woods - Parenting Ways

Parenting programs

When it comes to parent coaching, have you heard the phrase ‘it takes a village to raise a child’? Deb Woods believes it takes help from parenting programs to raise a child in today’s world.

The challenge for most modern families is that they no longer have access to a village of wise elders.  Therefore, raising children is tricky because it is tough to know where to find reliable advice.

Parenting programs provide reliable, research-based strategies and techniques to raise children and deal with the many challenges.

Deb Woods, the founder of Parenting Ways, is an experienced and accredited facilitator who will help you find the solutions that work best for your family or classroom.

Parenting Ways offers a variety of excellent programs, many of which are not available anywhere else in the South West.

Circle of Security® Parenting™

What is Circle of Security Parenting?

Circle of Security Parenting is an eight-session series based on decades of evidence-based research. The program focuses on supporting and strengthening parent-child relationships by guiding you through new ways to understand and respond to your child’s behaviour.

Discover new ways to connect with your children. Deb focuses on supporting safe, responsive and protective relationships between children and those who care for them.

The program runs for eight weeks, with a two-hour session each week. You will learn to:

  • recognise your child’s emotional needs
  • support your child’s ability to manage their emotions successfully
  • encourage the development of your child’s self-esteem.
How do the Circle of Security Parenting sessions work?

Deb explores your thoughts and beliefs about parenting and children each week.

In a safe, supportive group, you’ll be encouraged to talk about your:

  • struggles as a parent, and
  • experiences of being parented.

Plus, Deb examines how your partner’s experiences of being parented differ from yours and how your child’s experience might differ from yours.

Where do I attend each session?

Depending on the number of participants, Deb will hire a venue near your location, offer Zoom sessions or visit your home. Deb will discuss this with you at the time of booking.

Do I need to attend every Circle of Security Parenting session?

Deb recommends attending each session because knowledge builds up over the eight weeks. To complete the program, you are required to attend all eight sessions.

However, Deb understands that family life can make this challenging. So if you miss a session, catch-up sessions can be arranged.

Will I receive a certificate of completion?

After participating in all sessions, you’ll receive a certificate of completion.

Tuning in to Kids®

What is Tuning in to Kids?

If you’re looking for a six-week parenting program proven to work, look no further than Tuning in to Kids® facilitated by Deb Woods.

Initially developed by Professor Sophie Havighurst and Ann Harley in 1999, this evidence-based, emotion-focused group parenting program helps you help children develop emotional intelligence.

Children with higher emotional intelligence:

  • make and keep friends easily
  • concentrate better at school
  • self-regulate their emotions

As a parent, the benefits include:

  • awareness of your own emotions
  • how to recognise, understand, and manage your children’s emotions
  • communicate in meaningful ways with your child
  • help your child learn to manage and self-regulate their emotions
  • guide your children with behaviour limits
  • equip your child with problem solving skills
How do the Tuning in to Kids sessions work?

Due to the initial program’s success, there are four versions of the course Deb facilitates to target different age groups.

  • Tuning in to Kids®
  • Dads Tuning in to Kids™
  • Tuning in to Teens™

Each program is a six-week program with weekly sessions of two and a half hours.

Learning to tune into your kids before the big emotions take over is essential in understanding why your children behave the way they do.  Recognising and responding to these early warning signs will make your child feel safe and secure.  Research shows that EQ (emotional intelligence) is more important in life than IQ (intelligence quotient).

Where do I attend each session?

Depending on the number of participants Deb will hire a venue near your location, offer Zoom sessions or visit your home. Deb will discuss this with you at the time of booking.

Will I receive a certificate of completion?

After participating in all sessions, you’ll receive a certificate of completion.

“One of my clients,  *********, recently attending one of your Tuning into Teens courses. I’ve had rave reviews from both ********, and her support worker. They mentioned there might be an adaptation of the course that would be condensed down to put support workers through if they support teens or adults with teen children. Is this something you’ve done before or would be open to doing?”
